I bought a Stearns & Foster king firm mattress, and it gave be backaches for 3 nights. You can't just take a mattress back, so I was considering exchanging for a Dr. Breus mattress, but that would have hit me up for $1600 more with no guarantee it wouldn't hurt my back as well. So I started researching mattress pads and toppers. Originally ordered memory foam, but concerns about chemicals and toxins caused me to send it back before use. Then I read about latex mattress toppers and that made more sense. Found out via research and other great reviews that the cheaper latex toppers can be mixed with some memory form or other not so healthy materials. (I have been researching how chemicals in mattress for fireproofing and such are very toxic and are the hidden source of many of our health problems). I originally bought this 2" twin extra-long topper to replace a 3" twin extra-long latex foam topper I'd purchased elsewhere about six years ago. I'd never been fully comfortable on the 3" topper, so I thought perhaps one slightly less deep might be better. It arrived promptly and in excellent condition, with a very nice cover too. The foam did have a noticeable, but not overpowering, smell at first. I let it air out for a few hours, then put the cover on. (I probably should have let it air out longer--maybe a day or two--but it all worked out anyway.) I slept on this new pad for about a week, and it did seem slightly better than the old 3" one I'd been on. Then one night I needed to make a "spare" bed, so I put both pads on the floor, making a 5" topper "mattress." I ordered this because my current mattress is only two years old and every morning my husband and I woke up with horrible pain in our lower backs. The other review made it sound too good to be true but I thought, why not? Its cheaper than a new set and if it does not work after 90 days I will simply return it. I have had it for two weeks now and it has made a huge difference. Not only do I wake up without back pain but I rest better all night long. The only reason I gave it four starts instead of five is because it is hard to transport. You must be really, really careful with it.
